Russ founded Calvert Holdings in March 1996 following twenty-six years in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry. He has led the company through its acquisition and internal development of key units resulting in an operation capable of providing significant drug testing and development, capital investment, management, and media services for emerging biodiscovery and other business organizations.
Prior to founding Calvert, Russ served as president with an early stage pharmaceutical company and a biotechnology company and as an executive with a multinational pharmaceutical/chemical company. He also served as a board member of national and state biotechnology trade associations.
In addition to serving with and heading up national and international companies, you might find Russ running another marathon or decimating the competition in the ranks of amateur golf.

President & Chief Operating Officer
Al is president of Calvert Holdings and also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Calvert Laboratories, Inc. He has been an active member of the Calvert management team since 1998 and is largely responsible for the operations and administrative activities of the company.
Al came to Calvert following a successful international management-consulting career that took him throughout the world and across many industry groups. This perspective has made Al valuable in integrating the various operating units with Calvert.
Living primarily in Florida, Al has superb weather in which to ride his custom Black Cherry Black Pearl Harley-Davidson. Al is also an accomplished competitive power-lifter.
 Andy Burch
Vice President
Andy, founder and President of Carolina Securities, manages the company's investment banking services and is a principal in Calvert Research Institute. He has spent his career in the fund management and investment banking industry and has served as President, Triangle (NC) Bank, and Senior VP of BB&T (NC).
In Andy's spare time, you can find him outdoors on the golf course.

Calvert Laboratories
In addition to providing scientific advice and support to Calvert Holdings, "Bart" is also the President and Chief Scientific Officer for Calvert Laboratories, a 46,000 square foot nonclinical laboratory located in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Charles has been with Calvert since the acquisition of the Scranton-based preclinical laboratory and works closely with multiple biotechnology clients in the design of safety assessment programs, regulatory strategies and the management and execution of drug development programs. Bart has complete operational responsibility for the Northeastern PA preclinical laboratory.
Dr. Spainhour has almost forty years total experience in the pharmaceutical industry encompassing the fields of Pharmacokinetics & Metabolism, Biochemical Pharmacology (drug discovery), Radiosynthesis and Process Chemistry. Within the field of toxicology alone, Bart has approximately twenty years experience. He has worked as a veterinarian in private practice, an independent consultant in toxicology and safety assessment and as a forensic toxicologist. Bart has worked closely with Russ and Al in developing Calvert’s niche (service-orientation) within the industry and enjoys the greatest sense of satisfaction in educating clients and helping them achieve their drug development goals on time and in a cost-effective manner.
When not working at the lab or traveling, you can find Bart field trial training Labrador Retrievers, bird-watching, hiking, star-gazing, building furniture and enjoying photography.
