Calvert Holdings Continues Path of Growth

Cary, North Carolina (June 12, 2008) - Calvert Holdings, Inc. (www.calvertholdings.com) announces plans today to add additional staff to its licensing and project management unit, Calvert Research (www.calvertinstitute.com), LLC. Established in early 2005 to work with early-stage companies to advance their lead candidate biopharmaceuticals, Calvert Research has further evolved to working closely with Technology Transfer executives of major universities across the country to identify, license, and develop novel biopharmaceutical compounds.

“Our company has experienced substantial growth over the past few years, allowing us the comfort to revisit our basic business model as a conventional CRO focused on non-clinical drug development,” stated CEO Russ McLauchlan. He continued by adding, “We now work with a number of highly respected research universities on pulling forward very early stage technologies that may have application in a wide array of human diseases.”

Much of this type work is still too early for a standard investment by pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, as well as traditional investors, but Calvert feels we can use existing resources to advance these early-stage technologies and prepare them for their eventual development by the major players in the pharmaceutical industry. Recent announcements by prominent pharmaceutical companies reinforce Calvert’s belief that we can become a go-to source point for new compounds outside their core R&D capabilities.

Calvert Holdings promotes a culture of involvement, engagement, and personal development. We are people who are passionately engaged in contributing to the future well being of the planet we live on. By analyzing how emerging discoveries and current trends will affect future global needs, we position resources and apply our skills to meet them.

CureDM’s Diabetes Therapy Achieves Major Development Milestone

Wynnewood, Pennsylvania (April 30, 2008) - CureDM, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company developing new therapies to prevent, ameliorate, or reverse both type 1 and 2 diabetes, announces successful stabilization of their patented Human proIslet Peptide (HIP). By stabilizing HIP, CureDM improved its bioavailability. Recently completed studies indicate that human dosage requirements may be as much as 100-fold lower than the native form. HIP is a 14-amino acid human peptide derived from a specific human gene responsible for populating the pancreas with islets, which contain the cells that secrete insulin and other hormones necessary to prevent diabetes.

Not only does this mean lower costs associated with the manufacture and commercialization, but also potentially better safety and tolerability outcomes in human trials. “Meeting this milestone significantly impacts the commercial value of Human proIslet Peptide,” according to Loraine V. Upham, CEO. CureDM anticipates FDA approval for commencement of human studies in early 2009.

Currently, CureDM is studying dosage levels to determine lowest effective human dosage. Previous studies confirmed that stabilizing HIP did not adversely affect efficacy. Animal studies demonstrated that normal glucose levels are achieved after 25 days of treatment and remain normal after therapy is stopped.

About HIP
Human proIslet Peptide (HIP) stimulates the differentiation of pancreatic progenitor cells, present in the adult pancreas, into new insulin-producing islets. Each new islet contains pools of beta cells which make insulin. CureDM hypothesized that treatment with HIP will restore human pancreatic function without the use of stem cells.

About CureDM
The CureDM approach to restore new insulin-producing cells through islet neogenesis can potentially reverse both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Patients with type 1 diabetes will require pretreatment with an immune tolerance agent to protect new islets formed by HIP. CureDM, Inc., located at the Lankenau Institute for Medical Research on the Lankenau Hospital campus in Wynnewood, PA, is developing peptide therapeutics using a platform combing bioinformatics, proteomics and Human Genome sequence data. Using this method the CureDM scientific team determines the proteins involved in, and probable mechanisms of islet neogenesis in humans. For more information about CureDM, visit www.curedm.com.

Calvert Hosts Triangle Twitter MeetUp

Raleigh, NC (Triangle) users of Twitter assembled at the corporate offices of Calvert Creative (a Calvert Holdings, Inc. company) to meet area users, to discuss uses of Twitter, and to explore other social applications. After several hours of networking and community-driven discussions, participants departed talking animatedly about future meet ups.

Cary, North Carolina (March 12, 2008) - On Thursday, March 6, 2008 Calvert Creative, a Calvert Holdings, Inc. company, hosted the Triangle TweetUp at its corporate headquarters in Cary, NC. Over 30 people who are actively engaged in online community attended the phatic event. The common interest uniting the group was the use of Twitter.

Event coordinator Wayne Sutton explained that “Twitter is a user-managed, hyper-local, micro-blogging conversation web application that asks the question "What are you doing?”

Prior to the event, nearly 15 people gathered at the MacGregor Ale House for cocktails and early introductions. Connecting the dots among screen names, avatars, and actual faces surfaced as the eminent challenge as participants worked to locate each other in person for the first time. However, despite the fact that many had previously only met in a virtual environment, stimulating conversations began to flow at a quick pace. Several participants commented that their online relationships felt just as real to them as traditional face-to-face relationships. Many agreed that adding a personal dimension to an existing virtual relationship was the best of all possible worlds.

The official gathering began with social mixing and lots of gadget use at a newly installed English bar within the Calvert Holdings offices. The bar, added as a statement of Calvert’s desire to create an inviting workplace, remained the hub of activity throughout the evening. The agenda included open and variable multimedia discussions on topics ranging from Seesmic, Pownce, and Twitter for business, to smartphones, the local music scene, operating systems, and the use of technology in education. Concerns about transparency and online visibility in social community were of particular interest. "Everyone was simultaneously Twittering, videotaping, livestreaming, uploading photos, and blogging as we talked about emerging technologies that help to facilitate community," commented Lisa Creech Bledsoe, who goes by the name Glowbird on Twitter, and heads up Calvert Creative. "It was an ideal innovative communication environment."

In explaining the emerging popularity of Twitter, event participant Teri Saylor noted: "I am amazed at the eclectic mix of Twitterers, and even though we come from such a diverse background, we seem to find common ground through this medium. Everyone wants to have a sense of community, and Twitter provides that. At work, I keep it going on my iPhone and never feel alone." Looking ahead to where all this online communication is progressing, Michael Kimsal predicted: “If you want to see what the future of communication will be, the Triangle Tweetup people are the ones to watch.”

After several hours of networking and community-driven discussions, participants departed talking animatedly about future meet ups.

Calvert Creative, whose mission is to help businesses learn to use innovative communication tools, hosted the TweetUp because of its commitment to make the Triangle a driving force in social media. Jeff Tippett, Outreach Strategist for Calvert Holdings, Inc., noted: “Calvert Creative helps business communicate at the speed of innovation. We think that users of Twitter are blazing new trails in business communication.”

Calvert Creative Announces Social Media Seminars

Cary, North Carolina (January 10, 2008) - Calvert Creative (a Calvert Holdings, Inc. company) announced today plans to conduct a series of seminars entitled, “What is Social Media? How Can it Move Business?”

The seminars, slated to being in late January, are designed to introduce businesses to social media and to begin discussions of how this new marketing may be used to move businesses.  Sequential seminars are part of the overall strategy.

“Many executives have noticed the upsurge in publicity about social media including recent buzz about it in the presidential elections.  Now companies are saying we need to understand social media and become participants,” reported Jeff Tippett, a Social Media Strategist for Calvert Creative and its parent company Calvert Holdings, Inc.  “Many companies have determined that being ‘dark’ in the social media realm is no longer a viable option. They have to find ways to be participants in order to manage their online branding as well as to understand their competition’s online presence.”

The seminars are designed to offer an entry-level understanding of social media and to engage businesses in collaboration about implementing social media as part of their overall strategy for online communication.

Two distinguishing components of the seminar are

1)     They are free.  Calvert Creative will conduct the seminars at no charge to businesses.  “People and businesses want to know what's happening, and it's part of our job to keep an eye out there and call back the reports not only on what we are finding but also on what we think is coming soon," commented Lisa Creech Bledsoe, Creative Director for the company, "That way everyone wins." Bledsoe recently posted her "Tech Predictions for 2008" on the Calvert Creative blog.

2)     They are green.  “We made a conscious decision not to waste resources by creating lots of print collateral,” remarked Tippett.  Noting that most people end up throwing away print materials Calvert Creative decided that a more green approach was to communicate digitally.   He continued by adding that “We can adapt and proliferate our message more easily by using digital communication.”

The discussions do not end at the close of the seminar.  Plans are to continue the conversation on Calvert Creative’s blog.  Calvert Creative is engaged in building a network of businesses that are interested in discovering ways to move businesses forward through social media.

Information about upcoming seminars is available by contacting Jeff Tippett at 919.854.4453 or jeff.tippett @ calvertholdings.com.  For more information on Calvert Creative visit www.calvertcreative.com.
